Håckes Cup 2014

Linköping travelled to Växjö on The 2nd March for their annual pre season work out at the Håckes Cup. A 4am start was rewarded with an 8am first match versus Vänersborg, the Swedish 7’s champions. Despite a valiant effort, they had too much pace for LRK and ran out winners. The next 2 matches against Trojan and Malmö were better, LRK winning both fairly comfortably and qualifying for the quarter finals. Here they played the in-form Sodertalje. It was a see-saw match which saw the best of both sides, but Sodertalje managed to get the decisive score right at the death to proceed. Next up were Wexio, who were eventually defeated after a good match, then Gothenburg in the 5th, 6th place match, After a ding dong battle, including the first ever “sudden death” play-off, LRK were defeated.
It was an extremely new and young LRK squad that took part in this competition, and this bodes well for the future of the club. Some of the play was of a high standard and we can be very proud of our efforts. Well done!
